I hear ya. Usually its people who would never email but simply want to boost their number of friends on their profile.

My main gripe is people posting pictures of me or other stuff that I don't like without my consent., that then becomes attached to my profile.


Also the friend requests from acquintances who I have no problems asscoiating with but who I don't view as close enough to allow onto my facebook. Once I reject their request then basically I've insulted them when I have no intention to do so.


Both of those issues can be addressed in Settings. You can make it so no one can tag you in photos. And you can restrict content that "friends" can view.
