Sure, I'm not knocking an informed decision, and I'm prior service myself (Army). But one commonality everyone, including myself, has voiced concerning graduate studies is that they wished they would have started earlier. That's just cumulative experience talking.
There does seem to be a bit of a catch 22 with university jobs these days. Worse case scenario is that you have to teach at a hagwons or privates through grad school and then do a couple of years at any third rate university in the sticks that'll take you so that you can holster that magic 2 years of experience. Sounds like a lot of work to get a job, but time flies when you're concentrating on the bigger picture. |

PRagic,
"do a couple of years at any third rate university in the sticks that'll take you so that you can holster that magic 2 years of experience."
So the 2 year thing isn't a firm rule from the ministry of education like having a 4 year degree is for public schools? If you settled for the bottom of the barrel jobs, are there are universities out in the countryside where you can legally find a job without the 2 years?

Sure. I posted a whole slew of job ads on the 'University jobs without experience' thread. Some places even still hire people without the MA. Not worth taking without the MA,methought, if you're looking over the longer horizon, because most decent jobs require university experience gained AFTEER the completion of the MA.
These are definitely not jobs you'd be looking to suffer long term, but if you finish your MA and need 2 years of university experience to qualify for the jobs you'd like to have over the long haul, then they serve their purpose in a twisted, gnaw-your-foot-off-to-escape-the-trap sort of way. |
