| gl chooch, I always thought teaching little kids were the easiest. Then again, I'm all talk and still looking land my first job. However, the things I am sure are that kids love to move on their feet, follow the leader, use their 5 senses, being rewarded for anything, and above all they love to play. You keep them busy otherwise they will lose their direction faster than a school of goldfish. Ever wonder why kids enjoy watching tv? It's not because they understand it, it's because tv keeps them going. They don't have to understand it, they just have to follow it (remember they love to follow the leader). Disney movies are one example of the many, and kids will enjoy watching them even if they weren't spoken in their own language. Disney have done amazing work to their pictures(facial expression, hand gesture, arrows, colors, signs, body language, et) so that kids from all ages and tongues will understand their movies. |
Maybe you should hold your judgment until you've actually spent some time at the front of a classroom. Children mature very rapidly prior to age five or so, and there's a huge difference between teaching a two year old in an EFL environment and teaching a four year old in an EFL environment. |

| Are you sure that they're three Korean-age and not actually three? Three Korean-age is 1-2 years old, i.e. still in diapers and struggling with walking. Based on your description it sounds like you're teaching five-year-olds. I've never heard of any hagwon having classes for three-year-olds. |
Hey Northway, yes, Korean 3-4 years old. Still in diapers. We have to change them. One of the students only knows 10 Korean words according to my Korean co-teacher. |

How much or how little Korean they know isn't an issue. Don't teach them English by explaining it in Korean. Use pictures, flashcards and colored paper.
One of the best games we played last year, I bought a pack of colored origami paper in Daiso which had 12 colors in it. I used to give each kid a pack of colored pencils, then call out a color and they had to say the color match it with the paper. I would always go first in the beginning, and initially they didn't speak and needed a lot of coaxing, but after a few weeks they got really into it and had learned 12 colors. Just make sure you stay consistent - I noticed my older students tend to say sky blue and light green, never light blue, so I always stuck to that.
The website www.twinkl.co.uk is a great resource for visual aids. My school took out a platinum subscription for me, but even without that there is a lot of free stuff, look at the Early Years section.
You're not disadvantaged by their lack of Korean, if anything it's an advantage. We had a (Korean) 4 year old student who was completely bilingual as she lived in the US for 2 years and went to an English speaking daycare. My younger sister is completely bilingual as we had a French nanny for her so she grew up speaking both languages, whereas my French is quite rusty because I was 11 at the time. |

Okay, that's just wrong on so many levels. Poor kids, and poor you. I'd be in survival mode, at that age, and I'm one of the rare ones who actually finds the five year olds tolerable. |
