Of course it was a yawn for you. It chronicled the decline and destruction of the non-educated middle-class, i.e. the destruction of the union as a potent political force.

The characters and actors portraying them were not compelling. The story felt detached from the world that had been established. Like I said, it was like Margaret Schroder's storyline in Boardwalk Empire. It may have been an important part of the landscape, but the way it was done was uncompelling and borderline tedious. Maybe I'll give it a second try. It might grow.

Anyways, boy some of you are making this personal. We're just talking about a TV show that we all watched.

You didn't find Frank Sobotka compelling?

Of course it's all subjective, but I really disagree. I will say the lady cop at the docks (Amy Ryan) rubbed me the wrong way. Didn't like her character. Other then that, it was a great part of the story with some great characters.

The lady cop at the docks had the most meaningful and memorable quote of the entire series in my opinion.

First time watching the wire I completely skipped season two after 2-3 episodes. Then a few years later when I rewatched the series I really got in to S2. Except for ziggy. That guy is annoying.

I'd say S1 > S3 > S4 > S2 > S5

Fifth season would be great if they took out the newspaper arc and the serial killer.

I finished the season last week. And honestly it too a good 85-90% of the way through for me to get invested. Once Ziggy's arc went where it needed to go it got a lot more interesting.

Yeah, you spend most of the season honestly wondering how it connects back to the main story at all, but when it does it's truly revelatory. I think the most impressive thing, in hindsight, is that David Simon had the balls to go with the total wild card in just his second season, without having great ratings on the first. I feel like most shows would have waited until later.
