As strange as it seems, the countryside doctors often have higher incomes than the big city doctors. But most doctors pass up the higher salaries to live in Seoul or one of the larger cities. Various factors play into the reasons. The biggest factor being doctors want their children in the elite education areas. Thus, doctors pick an area to live where the best middle schools, high schools, and universities are located.

I don't have any data to back this up. I'm just relaying what a few doctors, and people who have ties with doctors have told me. Don't shoot the messenger.
