| I agree eric, I plan on keeping in touch with some of my students when I leave to see how far they progress, I dont claim to be the best teacher of english, Im just not patient enough with them, and I talk to fast still, I just cant seem to bring myself to be in slow motion verbally, like they really need, and when youve got different levels of students its either too fast or too slow. As far as their motivation, your right, it varies individually Ive resorted to monthly money games 500 won 1st, etc... Its gets the competitve juices flowing especially when you put their scores on the board lol! |

Gwangju boy mentioned school students who don't want to be there:
I teach only one of these classes every day, because I work in a mostly adult hagwon. It's the only class I really dislike teaching. The kids don't want to be there, they are often rude, ignore me, call me hurtful names, etc. Talk to me in impolite Korean like I'm also a middle-school student. It's the most disheartening, depressing 50 mins of my day. My kids are there because their parents tell them to go and no other reason. They never want to study, always ask to play games(as it's the lesser of two evils compared to study), and always doze off. I hate those classes!
Still, it's better than Gwangjuboy's situation(like I had all last year) where the majority of ALL the students are being forced/coerced into going.
I was exactly the same when I was a teenager studying German, we all mocked the German native-speakers and were loathe to study. I acknowledge I'm being paid back for my past sins but it doesn't mean I have to like it...
