So today is payday and I had planned to book my ticket with my rent money. I arrived at school to find out that indeed my company had convinced the school to keep the terms of the contract. What timing.

In short....

I can collect severance and I can get my pension directly instead of by application outside of the country.

Now what? Suffer through 4 more months for 2 grand or just say screw it and leave as planned?

You are 2/3 the way finished.

You will loose out more than a cool two grand. You will loose....

1. Whatever you would set asside for savings.
2. Your severance
3. Your Final pay
4. Four months worth of pension
5. Flight ticket or cash equivalent (which I am a fan off)

But, if you are at that point, and it is nothing to be ashamed of, that none of those points matter, than it would be time to move on.

I lol'd at that one. Yeah, it can be quite an experience. It has all the appearances of a modern, first world country. But far too often you get a glimpse behind the mask and its modernity is often shown for the charade it is. It's frustrating for the very reason that it has so many Western conveniences, the kids are wearing their hip-hop hats backwards, it has packed supermarkets, successful tv dramas, they drive nice cars, they have democracy, and so on......but just when you think you can relax its backward, hillybilly, just recent found out about democracy, workers' rights, human rights, and all that comes crushing down on you. It's still very much a developing nation, with a long way to travel, not least in the area of foreign workers' rights. Modern Korea is quite the unique hybrid thing really, which is why I chuckled so at your sentiment. "How can this country possibly exist?" Very Happy

Anyway, I hope you make the best decision for whatever your future holds. Sorry for the stress and hardship you're dealing with at the moment. Believe me, I've been there. Confused

This place ain't for everyone.

I wouldn't be losing flight money. It's an after class program so there is no flight. I'd be leaving directly after a pay day and it'd be only 3 months of pension.

Savings is pretty meh at this point. I rented my current apartment based on the idea I'd be living with my partner, then we broke up. So rent is a little outside my budget anyway. The rest goes to student loans.

I'm at that point. But now that the company isn't actively screwing me, I feel kind of guilty. But the idea of 4 months instead of 1 month of daily fist fights and screaming matches just makes me feel like jumping off a bridge.

Smithington. I totally understand why the suicide rate is so high here. Glad to have made you lol. Yeah. When I visited here as a tourist I kept thinking "developing nation? pfffft". The crazy thing is even citizens get screwed out of severance, pay and all the other things we do TOO. My co worker was just complaining that the last 3 jobs she worked didn't pay her severance. SHE'S KOREAN. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

On the farm, every Friday
On the farm, it's rabbit pie day.
So, every Friday that ever comes along,
I get up early and sing this little song.
Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Goes the farmer's gun.
Run rabbit - run rabbit - run.
Run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!
Don't give the farmer his fun! Fun! Fun!
He'll get by without his rabbit pie,
So run rabbit - run rabbit - Run! Run! Run!

Truth and snark might have been a bit mixed there. However, if the poster I made that comment about legitimately believes that he/she isn't getting a job based on their accent alone, they might want to consider changing some other things before making such a statement.

Well, you're a real Sherlock Holmes for being able to deduce that from writing style.

And rather than post something constructive and helpful, or even remotely explaining WTF you were referring to with that remark...No, just go for pure douchebaggery and leave. Exactly what I love about this board.

Also, and should have said this earlier...Whenever you think those thoughts, ever considered NOT being an a-hole and keeping them to yourself? Odds are, no.

Here is your song: "All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go, I'm standing here outside the door, I couldn't wait to wake up and say good-bye. The dawn is breaking, it's early morning, the taxi's waiting, blowing the horn. Already I'm so excited I could die. So kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll also leave, envy me since you'll never want to stay. 'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane, know that I'll not come back again. Oh yeah, I have to go!" You know the tune. Sing it!

I was right. Looking at the hell spawn Korea calls children was so much easier knowing I'm going to dump them like the trash they are.

I give up trying to control them. Unless there is physical violence I don't give a rat's ass what they do anymore. I'm going to let them goof off for the last 10 min of class. Let the complaints begin. In 3 days it's be exactly one month away from my great escape.

I keep getting this excited twinge in the pit of my stomach every time I greet the principal in the morning.

The most important thing I've learned in Korea is f$%* Korea. There is a reason both north and south exist.

Both have slave labor. Both have blind nationalism. Hagwons are the south's version of labor camps. Both have a xenophobic, cult like worship of purity. One is simply a gentler version of the same brutality. They are mirrors of each other.

Korea, may we never meet again.

Nope. Since when did truth make someone an asshole? It isn't the first time he has posted that asinine assumption either.

People do nothing but come to these boards and pew-pew all over the place like the world is supposed to hand them something for sucking at life. Too bad life doesn't work like that.
