... but with a little digging I discovered it was in Suwon. |
I like Suwon.
Great little city with lots of diversity - I was in Jowon-Dong (by the Gyeonggi education office) and in Yeongtong-Dong (by homeplus).
Everything you needed and convenient to get to as well as easy transportation to Seoul (often a faster commute than from the east end of Seoul to central Seoul).

Looking back, I wish I had taken the Suwon location. I've heard some nice things about the area. |

Tell that recruiter to kick rocks. |
I think I kept it pretty diplomatic despite the recruiter's little jabs and digs. The recruiter was implying that if I couldn't be more flexible then perhaps I should work with someone else. It's a year of my life, I do not have to be flexible about where I live. I told the recruiter if they no longer wish to work with me, that is fine. Plenty more recruiters in the sea. |

Why not just go for a direct hire? It may take a bit more time but it is better than dealing with the mental midget recruiters. |

Some of the suburbs are decent. They have all the amenities of the big city. If partying in Seoul is your thing, do that on the weekend. It's 30 minutes into Seoul from Bucheon or Anyang. Get a cheap motel for 40-50,000 a night and get silly drunk. It's affordable. |

Access to Seoul is good, but it's not the most interesting city in the world. There's plenty to do, but I don't think you'll get there and think I need to be here all the time. No need to sacrifice quality of job or accommodation to be in the city. Places like Ilsan, Bundang, Anyang or Suwon all have plenty of amenities and easy access to trains, the airport, Costcos, bars restaurants, mountains... I'm a city guy as well, but Seoul never beckoned me the way a Toronto, Manhattan London, SF to name a few did. Those places have quite a difference between the burbs and the city. You won't find the same here. |
