Is there some way of finding out if the paperwork has begun to be processed or not, without contacting the employer? I recently had to change my plans after signing a contract and it would suk if I'm barred from getting another E2 for a year. Any links etc?

My boyfriend and I have been offered a contract at a school is Busan but it seems like they want us to sign quite soon. We kind of want to explore more options to see if better opportunities might come up.

Pushing you to sign soon is a big red flag IMO. Good schools hire new teachers reasonably well in advance. When a school pushes you, it's usually because someone bailed before the scheduled finish of their contract. And teachers are not likely to bail if they're on a good thing.
I almost took what looked to be a fairly good offer from a hagwon on my first day of job hunting, but held out because 1) they wanted me to sign straight away and 2) I'd promised myself I wouldn't take the first thing that came along (as I'd done twice before). A week later something better came along.

Well isn't it always the case that something better can always come up? It always seems that way...
I do agree with the red flag if they need a teacher right away, you might want to be careful on that... Did the school need to hire you right away because they needed to fill the spot right away? If so then try to think why... when is the hire date?

Yeah. If you have no experience and only bare minimum qualifications, you'd better not be too choosy. However, if you are experienced and relatively well qualified (and not a greedy bar-stud), what you're looking for is more than likely to come along sooner rather than later.

They wanted us to sign right away because they had a few more teachers interested in the position. They also told us that we'd be better suited for the positions because of the nature of our degrees. The hire date is for September 30th which isn't too bad at all. We've signed and we think we'll stick with it because it seems like it'll be a good place and school for us as we're just starting out in ESL teaching. Thanks for all the input though, it helped us in making a decision.
