Here we go again...
First of all, this was not journalism. It was a travelogue based on my experiences at the time. I did not exagerate my own experiences in Korea and everything that I witnessed did take place.
I have also worked as a news journalist and I know how to write in that style. What I wrote then was not written in a newsy style, but I never pretended to be writing journalism.
Writing that stuff had a cathartic effect for me and instead of hitting the bottle after a hard day/week I would write all my experiences down instead.
Rapier I agree with what you wrote about Ireland, I am no fan of the place, it is a small minded, bigoted country with some serious issues. However I am in Korea now, not Ireland so I am writing about Korea. Also one of the things that drove me to write what I did was the juvenile attitude of the Koreans who I interacted with as well as the English language media who paint an entirely different picture to the Korea I experienced.
These days my life is far more in order and I do not have to put up with living in dodgy areas and being a teacher (which I hated).
I am not bitter, and maybe getting all that stuff on paper has helped me stay that way.

Dutchman,
A beep in a car trying to ram my taxi of the road was more than a traffic violation, and the circumstances in which the rape occured ensured I could do nothing.
However the main bonus of this thread is that I was quoted by Real Reality Very Happy

Agreed. I had no right to criticize without knowing the circumstances. My apologies.

Melodrama married to cliche, what a lovely couple they make!

Corporal, get your head out of the sand. Stop telling us that what we see is not really happening. Just because your husband doesn't hit you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Your posts are really insulting.l
