I went into a money exchange place in korean....(won't say where!)
turned in 4 million Won for some green backs. The cashied counted three times and I watched the cashier count three times. Cashier gives the money to me, I recount and counted 900 bucks extra. Played it off like our counting matched, said goodbye and walked out! Stuck together, which the cashier didn't know was brand spanking new 100 Ben Franklins! These Ben's were all new! I ended up getting 900 bucks more because of the error! New bills these were!
Am I a bad person for not handing it back! Hell yeah! But 900 bucks richer bad man! Never did go back to that money exchange place! And never will!
But...what goes around...comes around!!! And come around it did!
Went into a restaurant a few months later. Buffet restaurant. Grab a tray and get the food. Paid the cashier and left my wallet on my tray along with my food. Sat down, ate, etc. left about 30 minutes later and forgot my wallet!!
Realize it about 20 minutes later, go back to the restaurant. Cashier has my wallet minus $1200.00!! Was I fit to be tied! True story folks! What goes around...comes around! |

I used to work in a cellphone store. We had this one big guy who would come in every month and buy several phones and thousands of dollars worth of prepaid cards before roaring off in his porche. Yeah, he was a pimp.
Well one time after using the house phone, he left, and after we locked up we found his wallet by the phone. And it was so stuffed with hundred dollar bills it could not be closed. I figure there was several thousand dollars in it.
When he came by the next day to pick it up, he was not at all concerned about having forgotten it, and he didn't bother to count it or anything.
I could help thinking about taking it.. I mean does he really deserve it? But of course, no amount of money is worth being decapitated by a pimp. |

Once in Montreal, I came into an ATM shortly after a man in a suit had just left (didn't hold the door for me). Then I noticed in the ATM slot, a lot of bills. I don't know exactly how much was in there, but it was a few hundred dollars at least as it was maybe half a centimeter thick. So I run out after the guy. I catch up to him and tell him that he forgot his wad of bills at the ATM. The guy looks at me, takes the bills from my hands and turns away. Nothing, not even a thank you... nothing!
I feel that I did the right thing. But if it ever happens again I'll think twice
Just my 2 cents |

I still have a check I never cashed from a company that did business with me when I was in business in the States. I had to dun them every month for payments, and their bookkeeping was a mess. They took months to pay me at times- and I was a struggling, starving little business. So, at the end, before I finally gave up on the business, they sent a second payment for the same invoice. Damn, I was tempted.
I mean, they owed it to me for stress alone. Their f'ed up bookkeeper would have never noticed. But, I didn't cash it. I keep it to remind me to never become like the people that drove me broke. |

It's good to see that we are basically honest people, who do in some small way look out for others. I too would have returned it. Well done. |

This is a hard one to answer .............. years ago I found a purse stuffed full of money and betting slips. I drove several kilometers to return it. The owner took it from me and closed her door in my face without saying one word...................... You can be sure I will think long and hard before returning anything after that.
Now that I think about it, if she could afford to make all those bets then she could afford not to get her money back. |

| If it comes from a bank - give it back! Once when I was 16 I went to the bank and got money out and they gave me an extra $20. I didn't even notice it and they called and called and called and I wasn't home and they sent the police to my house! If it's a bank - they want their money. |

This discussion has jogged my memory and I now remember another incident where I 'returned' a cheque ........ and wasn't thanked for it.
Many years ago I got a job managing a farm. While the owner was away I cleaned out the vehicle I was given to use around the farm. Hidden under a large pile of rubbish on the floor I found a 4 month old cheque (check) for over $2000. When the owner returned I gave the check to him and he took it without saying one word.
Sure it was his, I was his employee plus I could not have cashed the check anyway but that's not the point. Common decency demands a few words of thanks for me returning lost property.
Incidentally he also did not comment on the spotlessly clean vehicle and all the other jobs I did around the farm.
He was the worst employer I've ever had. Needless to say I resigned as soon as it was convenient for me. |

| It's awful to hear of the jerks who don't even say "Thanks". It makes it hard to do the right thing. Still, I've returned money back twice - each situation being an overpayment of $100. |

Someone pulled a stunt like this on me when I worked as a waiter. I ended up paying the loss out of my own pocket.
No question... back I'd go... |
Right, she'd have had to pay it at the end of the working day when they balanced the receipts. You did the right thing.
I once found a wallet in a pub with a load of cash and credit cards in it (at a time when credit card fraud was probably pretty easy) ~ I handed it in at the bar and the bloke came and picked it up later that evening. He left ONE POUND on the bar for me.
I thought, shove it up your arse you cheeky cunt. I put it in the Lifeboat box. Bloody tosser. |
