All though rNS was a little harsh, I agree with his/her comment, that simple contingency planning could have avoided this. As in thinking ahead, how the hell do I get home if I miss a bus? Who can I call, using the cab drivers cell phone, that knows my address, so they can explain it to the driver? What's that person's number, so I can carry it in my wallet for emergency? Who set me up with this apartment and can write down the address in Korean, so I can carry in my wallet? Or, simply, what is the number of my director, or, for that matter, anyone that I work with who speaks Korean and English, in case that I get in a jam, anywhere.

| Good advice chronicpride. I sometimes get lost in Guelph, Ontario (I'm bad with directions) and I'm coming to Korea so I should make little cards detailing directions to my home in case I get lost or whatever. It may sound lame to some but God forbid I end up wandering around clueless. |

Nice.
I met a girl on the subway, and ended up going out to a few bars on campus. It had f*ck-all to do with planning ahead.
I moved into a different motel the day before yesterday, and in fact I DID get the proprietor to write down the address... which is exactly the address I posted here to begin with.
Chronicpride, you owe me a beer. I handed the translated bit Zyzyfer gave me, and the driver took off. He got me close enough so I could point him in the right direction.
Man, it's crazy how lame some people can be on this board. Let's make fun of the new guy and call him retarded! That should help!

It may sound lame but my friends have been there for four years and that's the thing they carry in their wallets that they value more than a credit card. (they're not so good with Korean as they'd like to be.) |

sombody above gave you the wrong korean...but only because they don't know Busan I guess....I used to live in yonsan 8 dong for 4 years.
heres the Korean to give to the driver, you only need the dong for taxi drivers...they know where it is. the following is the equivalent of take me to yonsan 9 dong please.

or you can say it Yun - Sahn - Goo - Dong Gap - Shi -Da.
other helpful taxi words.
yuh Ghee Suh OH - Reun -johk gap shi da (turn right, please)
yuh ghee suh When -johk gap shi da (turn left, please)
jeek jeen gap shi da (go straight)
yuh ge suh say wuh say yo (stop here please)

They're not romanizations, they are pronunciation guides. There's a difference. Pronouncing a proper romanization would require a basic knowledge of the proper pronunciation of Korean letters and their romanized counterparts. Since the OP doesn't know Hanguel, it's safe to assume that giving him a proper romanization would be worthless to him. Thus dg611 did the right thing by spelling it in a way that a native English speaker could pronounce it best with no knowledge of Korean. That was the most appropriate way to write it in this scenario IMO. |

Komtengi, I find it very disturbing that you do not seem to know the difference between a 'wrap sheet' and a 'rap sheet.'
OP, you have my sympathy, and glad you made it home ok. Can understand sorta how it happened (but you probably should have grabbed a card from the motel - I have never known a hotel without cards/matches/a lighter, etc.), and hope it was a fun time with the girl.
