Got my (British) passport renewed last year, embassy in Seoul is very friendly and can't do enough for you. Never went to immigration, but sent off new & old passport to Daejon Immigration when re-newing contract. They don't put a new stamp in the (new) passport though, just enter new passport details on their ol' computer. If things are the same as last time, you just carry your old passport with you until you need/get a new stamp of any kind.

I just had my canadian passport renewed in October. The guaranteur does not have to be Canadian. I had an American lawyer friend of mine guarantee me.

If you do not have a guaranter then just go to the embassy pay the extra money and some canadian official will come out look at you look at your picture and sign it. simple

I did not know that 48-page passports exist for Canadians until the other day. I have something in every page now with over 18 months left till expiry. Why can't they staple in a few extra pages? Why not just give the 48 pager first off and scrap the 24 pager (the first 5 pages don't count anyway)?

It does seem like most countries don't really care where they stamp either. Take up a page just to enter the place.

Apparently the 48 page one costs an extra 5 bucks but could save a lot of hassle later.

Forgot to ask. I don't have a birth certificate. Will this cause a "big" problem?

I guess the consulate in Busan is as good as the embassy in Seoul for getting the Canadian passport renewed?

Another thing is to be careful with the photos. They rejected mine before.

They are really fussy about everything it seems. They want details on where you lived and worked, even though you can't remember! So I suppose some people need to fabricate a bit.... make up addresses or whatever?

I heard recently that the Busan CDN consulate will not renew a passport.

Anyone know for sure?

My friend has a question about renewing her passport. She already had her passport amended to show a name change a few years ago and the new name is in the back of the passport. Will she need to show a proof of name change again, even though her passport has the new name when she renews next year? I think not, but I'm not sure.

I have another passport question. If someone was issued a passport in 1997, but they filled out form DS-82 for a renewal due to a name change, will the passport expire in 2007 or 2012? I'm confused. In 2002, my passort was amended with a different last name and a new number, so technically, my passport should be valid through 2012, right? Why should I have to fill out a DS-82 now, when I did this in 2002? Thanks. I already looked at the US state dept. website and they are useless on this question. I have one name and number in the front from 1997, and the new name and number in the back from 2002....so confusing as to when my passport REALLY expires...so frustrating!!!

My passport is not due to expire until June 2012, however I am planning to go and work in Korea in the next few months for a year and after that go to NZ to stay with my sister before I head out to Canada (I am a UK citizen).

I notice that renewing your passport in Korea costs a bit extra so I was maybe just going to renew mine before I go, so that all my documents are in the one passport (visas etc). I was also going to get the jumbo one, just incase I am hopping about from place to place.

This this is sensible or just waiting till nearer the time?

It's only �20 more to get the passport renewed in Seoul. Not bad I guess.

What kind of photos did you guys use for the renewal?

The local guy gave me my photos, but its like a sticker. You can just peel off the back, he told me thats whats being used these days.

Its been 5 years since my last renewal, so am not sure.
