No reason for dental fees to be so high except the greed of the profession. Who can blame them! I'd want to be greedy also and make money! Again...smaller cities in korea charge REASONABLE fees. Health insurance covers most dental work and my korean health insurance covers cleaning, fillings, pics, etc... gold fillings I paid the difference over the normal fillings.
But hey...if the dentist can make a buck off of you and then some...he will! |

I went to a dentist in Bundang(in the Popeyes building, on the road where the Express Buses come though, two blocks away from Samsung Plaza) to get some X-rays and other general oral check up stuff done for my Peace Corps application packet. The Peace Corps states that they would reimburse the fees of said check ups for up to 150USD. Wwwwellll, this dentist's low-budget mouth inspection fee totalled 10,000. After the "procedures", he and his all-of-five-foot stature came out to the receptioist desk, pulled me aside, reminded me of the P.C. reimbursement cap and asked me if I wanted to "do something about that." That meaning. . .did I want to work out a deal where he could get the balance of that reimbursment amount? Yeah right aaaaaaa-hoooooole! Milk my own government of a hundred and forty bucks, possibly jeapardize my 2 year position with fraud charges, so that I can give throwbacks to the Gary Coleman Korean dentist doppleganger whom I had never met until he stuck his hands in my kimchi hole(uh, by that I mean mouth) a few minutes prior. . .all with no recompense to myself?!?!?!?!?
And he had this biiiiig shite-eating grin on his face too while he was asking like this. . . . and subsequently got the unequivocal middle finger. I mean, I put it right up to his nose. . . riiiight in front of his receptionists.
Not that I am claiming to be the moral pillar of my community . . .Buuuuut to hear of the other foreigners and Koreans who are getting raked over at the dentist office, and know that there are many in these "help" professions who went into it just for the money. . . just gets my goat. Don't pay 1.8. |
