I'm going on pure anedoctal evidence only (of course!), but I find trying to teach low-level Grade six or middle-school students, is difficult and generally not very effective. I don't think I'm alone in this. Although, with my experience of teaching this level limited to the hagwon environment, there certainly could be other reasons why this is true.
I think if I was being honest, and a mother of a 12-yr old beginner came up to me and asked for a reccomendation how their kid could study English, I would tell them to stick with their normal school lessons in school, wait a couple of years, and then let them start studying English later, when they are more mature and motivated to do it. |

| This is just anecdotal evidence too, but I didn't really start studying languages until I was eighteen. A bit of French here, a dab of Japanese in high school, but nothing really until I graduated and realized that working in temp agencies was boring... |
