Well, I have kept my "before-Korea" interests going on here in Korea so I don't think I'll have a problem (reading, music). Actually, I'm kinda looking forward to going home so I can escape the crap pop-music here and get back with my friends listening to The Cure and Depeche Mode!! I especially miss good movies. I also really miss grad school and can't wait to get back to that...to be reading, discussing, debating...can't wait. Also, since I live in So. California it will be easier to practice my Spanish and I miss that as well. I think your old interests will come back to you...I can't imagine going home and listening to BOA or collecting those stupid stuft hamsters that Koreans like to tack up in their cars. |
Well, I have outgrown my old interests. I see them for tha banal crap they always were but that I didnt realize. |

| I certainly lost interest in the politics back home. I didn't even realise that the premier of Ontario had changed until several months later. I guess that's mostly due to the fact that I won't be returning any time soon. |

| Life back home largely consisted of mucking about in the deep woods where humans do NOT run the show. Just the way I like it. Amped to go back!!! |

I'm surprised at how uninterested I'm becoming in what's going on back home.
I used to check out news websites several times a week, write letters to friends, work at staying connected.
But now in my third year I've just realized I've let the ties come undone and, other than family, am up-to-date with very little.
Could I actually be becoming a true expat?

| I was never into popular culture anyhow. living in england for a while I was amazed at how people devoted theirlives to a soccer team or copied the dress style of a pop star. Truly a hero worship culture. Wierd. |

I still follow NHL and NFL.
It's somewheat easy as I listen to a morning Sports radio station right before going to bed on weeknights.
I take grim satisfaction in contrasting winter weather here and back in Canada.
I make no effort to follow politics in North America, and make no effort to keep abreast of music and popular culture.
Speaking of a breast, what are current BARTENDER SALARIES? |

| In terms of where I lived specifically, initially I missed it a lot, but after my first stint in Asia, when I went back several years later things had changed so much I was longer interested in living there. What was a nice relaxing large country town had, essentially through excessive immigration, in the space of 4-5 years turned into a much more high-density, crowded city, with more traffic, noise, pollution etc. A lot of politicians were always saying "We all need to get used to higher density living", which to me is not what home was ever about. It used to be nice houses and big yards, now it's cookie-cutter houses cramped onto tiny lots of land where you could hear a neighbor in his living room fart. If I wanted to live in a place like that I'd stay in Asia. I'm not 30 yet and I feel like an old timer saying that, and the feelings are mostly just sentimental I guess, and I know you can't really stop globalization and progress, but it does seem like a bit of a shame. |

| I try to keep up with what I'm interested. I watch all of the WWE and TNA wrestling I can get my hands on. I also watch both the Daily Show and The Colbert Report on a reglious basis. So, my life hasn't changed that much. I sometimes even tune into local radio stations to hear some local accents. |
