I agree that a Korean language forum would be a great idea, having a central place where people can find links or ask language specific questions. It seems more and more people living in Korea these days are wanting to learn more Korean.

I'm sure many people who use this forum would like to have a Korean language section.

P.S. Shakuhaci's Korean slang link was a good read and a bit of an eyeopener! Shocked

That's a great link. Thanks for that. It even covers . I learn best with interactive sites like that or stuff like Declan.

I vote for a Korean language forum too.

That teen Korean site won't let me confirm my id for some reason. Says the id is not taken but won't let me sign up. Sad

Ok, problem solved, clicked on 'apply', I'm an idiot...

I think you would be a pretty good candidate.

That 'Teen Korea' site is a great one.

A bit silly but it matches Sogang for interactivity, really good for beginners.

I'm going to crack through it in a month and see how i go.

Yes, I have read the other relevant threads. But I haven't yet heard any feedback about this product:

I've heard of other such systems, ones being that they teach you like you are learning a language for the first time. Anyone try out such a system?

Also, how much Korean should I know before I get there?

Thanks for all your help!

There are so many Koreans wanting a free English tutor. Find one in your nearest ex-pat pub and arrange a tutorial exchange. The KTs you work with will probably also be pleasantly surprised to find a foreign teacher who actually wants to try hard to learn Korean.

I got Rosetta Stone before I came here. It helped with my pronunciation, but it was hardly practical. They give you pictures and a native speaker saying what the pictures were.

That was all fine and good until we got to pictures of cars on the street. I couldn't figure out what they were trying to say. Were they saying, "The car is going right?"

"The car is stopping?"

"The car is in front of the building?"

Long after a came here, I dug up the CD and played it for my girlfriend. She told me it was teaching me colors.

It didn't teach me anything practical, but I know the Korean word for "elephant," and I can perfectly say, "The man and the woman are dancing."

EDIT: I bought it on eBay, so I didn't waste much money on it.

Kangmi's blog has a comprehensive list of links for the Korean language

A list of Korean resources from UCLA

'Teen Korean'. This site offers Korean language aquisition for ethnic Koreans outside Korea. However, anyone is free to make use of this site

Korean as a second language. This is a very active MSN group. The creator is very dedicated and often answers questions about the Korean language

Page full of accurate Korean slang

I also have a list of Korean language links on my site. Wink

One that I find useful is on KOSNET:
http://www.interedu.go.kr/indexe.html

It has levels based on age groups and uses practical situations for the basis of the lessons, along with animations. I have tried many online Korean programs, including the Sogang one, and this one works best for me.
