By god grandma, you're right! Seoul is the Falluja of east Asia! And there are Koreans around every corner here! Much like the Freemason threat in Hollywood, we need to get the word out about this ASAP!
Hold me tight, I'm scared. |
I did not equate Korea to Falluhja. Nice straw man, Small Willie.
Willie, what is your magic number? Koreans have murdered GIs under similar circumstances (the armoured vehicle incident) to what is happening now (the ES) incident. Thus, while the danger is not as great as in Iraq, and I never said it was, there is some danger. This has been demonstrated by the Koreans themselves, and not by paranoid posters on this board.
So, what is your magic number? How many foreigners (teacher, GI or other) need to be injured before YOU think a sufficient enough danger exists that a warning should be issued.
There are some 'sky is falling' people on this board. There are also others, like yourself, that view anything less than angry mobs of torch wielding Koreans chasing foreigners through the streets as 'nothing to worry about' or 'something that will blow over'.
The USFK (apparently) believes that it is better to be safe than sorry, and warn their members through AFN (and, I would assume, through other sources) to watch their backs. This is simply prudent. It is something that should be allowed on this board, but currently isn't.
A simple 'Recently, numerous threats against the safety of foreign residents/visitors to Korea, especially in the ESL community have been made on several Korean internet discussion forums. While we believe that South Korea is, overall, a safe place to live and work, there have been isolated cases violence (under similar circumstances) in the past and we recommend that foreign residents evaluate their personal security measures as they see fit'.
We can't even talk about why such a recommendation is being made (not on this board at least). I will be interested to see if most of my post remains.
If the USFK believes that such a message needs to be conveyed to its members, why are we all in the dark on this board? |

All your posts that read "they're not going to allow this" that you've made in the last 48 hours - and I just looked, there are a lot of them - are still on the boards. It seems that phase has passed. |

Well...my little protest worked then, didn't it. |

It's pretty funny, isn't it - they sent replacement troops to Iraq without armoured cars because they were sure that the situation would have calmed down by the time they got there, but they need to warn troops stationed in Korea about the dangers of going to church or going without a warm coat in winter.
My favourite is a US-army issued coat I had that said 'button up jacket for extra warmth'. |

| Why does everybody think this is such an unusual thing? They probably have alerts on all the other AFN stations in Germany, Japan, etc. |

The AFN commercials can be pretty funny...and easy targets. I wonder, however, what it would be like if there were an 'ESL TV' channel in Korea.
I imagine that a lot of people (maybe even GIs) would get a kick out of the retarded 'Don't show up for class drunk', 'Don't sleep with your students' or 'Don't send pot to yourself in the mail and then sign for it' commercials. |

I always thought it was odd that AFN had infomercial about not touching unexploded ordinance.
I thought that would be done in basic ...

| If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war and you will not touch unexploded ordinance. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fucking beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit and you will not touch unexploded ordinance. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. No one will touch unexploded ordinance. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. I look down upon, but, do not touch, unexploded ordinance. Here you are all equally worthless, just like unexploded ordinance. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps and possibly touch unexploded ordinance. Do you maggots understand that you will not touch unexploded ordinance |
