| what about accessories for the iriver? I-pod's have tons of accessories that inlcude a hard shell case. The hardshell case seems like it will be pretty damn useful since my sports are more of the "extreme" variety. |

WHat's the quality like when you record from a tape? Do all irivers do this? Do all mp3 players do this? Can you adjust the quality when you do this or will you be stuck with a compressed mp3.
I'm just weighing up the convenience of this while also considering recording from a line out on my tape deck to my sound card and recording uncompressed onto my hard drive so I can make my own mp3s or irreplaceable cassette recordings I have. A lot of work if an iriver can do this for me with little noticeable loss in quality. |

Depends on the model, the H340 which I own will only record in .mp3 form at the moment (.wav recording is being promised as part of a future firmware) and will record up to 320Kbs. I believe the H120/H140s will record as .wav files. The quality is pretty good though not 'pro quality' it is perfectly acceptable at least to my ears (please no audiphile flames ) |

| the H140 can record to .wav files (or a range of .mp3 compression rates) using either the line or optical in. I'd say the quality would be much more dependent on your cassette deck than the iRiver- have recorded stuff onto the thing using microphones before and it sounded great. |
