As an ex-smoker I used to be the antichrist to smokers. If they lit up near me I would tell them how I was able to quit and how they should do it too. I mean I was annoying even to me!
After a few years I just started hitting them in the face with a shovel whenever someone lit up near me. After a few short weeks no one lit up near me for some strange reason. Damn expensive buying all those shovels though...I was up to a pack a week(yes you can buy shovels in packs of 6) |

Do you hate car drivers too??
Because they are messing up the air many, many times more than smokers to the extent that they are causing global warming which will harm the whole world immeasurably.
Breathing a bit of tobacco smoke is the least of your worries. |

None taken. I do indeed have a deceased great-uncle who was flat bald and named Dick. |

Apologies Swiss James. I guess I missed an inside joke about your apparent baldness or something like that. Meh I say. I have many really cool bald friends.
Smoking is never cool in my opinion though. Oh well... |

The National Emphysema Foundation

Emphysema
Emphysema is a chronic lung disease which affects the alveoli (air sacs) and/or the ends of the smallest bronchi (breathing tubes). The lung loses its elasticity (similar to an overused rubber band), and therefore these areas of the lungs become enlarged. These enlarged areas trap stale air and do not effectively exchange with fresh air. This results in difficulty with breathing and may result in insufficient oxygen being delivered to the blood. In some cases, the patients also have difficulty getting rid of a waste gas called carbon dioxide. The predominant symptom in patients with emphysema is shortness of breath. |
| Quote: |

Emphysema must be a horrible way to die. Battling and screaming for every breath, one of the most basic things we take for granted. |

This is one thing which has worried me a bit about moving to Seoul. I was a low-maintenance closet smoker until I quit a year or so ago. I still go on jags of it occassionally if I get very stressed out.
But here in Seattle, it's hard to even see anyone smoking a cigarette ever. At least in the circles and parts of town that I travel in. That's gotta be a lot easier for the ex-smoker than being surrounded by it all the time.
So, I'll have to adjust. But I'm glad to hear that there are some non-smoking restaurants. I'm sure that I'll frequent those.
Don't worry, Bobster. I'll still enjoy getting together to toss back a few with you without being a non-smoking nag. |
