I was certified through NAUI (openwater 1) about 9 years ago. I have been on many dives back home in Florida, however after moving up to Boston, i've gotten away from it. Now that I'm in Korea, and I'll have a little extra money, I'd love to dive again. Where are the best places to dive? Is diving in Jeju worth the trip?

We just came back from Thailand where Mr Canuckistan got his PADI open water certification (I'm NAUI certified--15 years). After 3 years of my brainwashing ("diving's fun, diving's fun, diving's fun....") he finally did it.

But for those thinking of getting certified in a holiday destination, here's a few points to consider: I'm a little critical of the way the course was run which seems too focused on just cranking them through the program and taking the money--and the group didn't even get a copy of the dive tables at the end. How hard would it be to furnish a photocopy of something as important to divers as that? And if, presumably, the dive shop wanted my husband to buy the book to get the dive tables, they didn't provide the option of buying the textbook (from them) nor give him info of where to buy the book. I nabbed a loaner textbook for my husband, but the rest of the group didn't even get one of those to study at night. Details I know, but safe diving is all about details.
We otherwise had a great time on a 2-day dive tour after he finished and missed seeing a whaleshark by about half an hour one day. AAAargh.
Next year we're going to go diving in Egypt. Excited about that!
