I like telling kids about how in elementary we had no homework or hagwons, and instead would take a few books, pile them on top of each other, put one end of a wooden board on the pile to make a ramp and drive our bikes over it. I thought everybody skinned at least one elbow or knee every time they went outside.

The truth is that the mothers don't want to spend time with the kids. There really isn't much parenting when the kids are never home. The average housewife must spend less than a couple hours a day with their children.

Having to spend time with children is horrible.. it really cuts down on the amount of time you can spend with your boyfriend before your husband gets home.

Kids are often viewed as status symbols both here and in the West. "My kid is an Honor Student at Barely Literate Academy" "My boy just finished school and joined the Fudgepackers Union, Local 669" "I have the purtiest little girl yanno- she has hair". Few parents think about or spend much time on or with their kids-that's what hakwons, PC bangs, babysitters, grandparents and television are for. Tzechuk excepted of course Razz

You are wrong. I exclusively breastfeed. I will do it until baby is about 5 months old (more if I can convince her to hold on that long.. she keeps looking at us when we eat now!!), then I will introduce solids.. rice cereals and vegetables etc... and I will let her wean herself off my boobs until she is ready, be it 12 months, 18 months, 2 years.. I don't care. She is my baby Very Happy

Letty won't be going to school until she is 7 - when she goes to junior school in the UK.

I was forced to go to kindergarten when I was 2.5 years old. I learned to write my complicated chinese name and my ABC by the time I was 4. I don't want my baby to have to go through all that. Before she goes to school, I intend to homeschool her. Let her learn mostly through play and without the kind of pressure they put on kids at school. Children have to be children before they have to grow up - time passes too fast, I don't want her to feel that her whole childhood is consumed by study when she is an adult (which is how I feel now, tbh...). I would feel far too guilty if it happened to her.
