| PS-- Anybody who talks like they fully understand Korea and doesn't speak fluent Korean is a moron. |
That's nonsense. Language helps, but doesn't preclude someone from not being able to understand this country. |
huh?? It doesn't preclude someone from not being able?
Well.....does it not fail to stop someone from not doing the opposite of ceasing to not refrain from the precluding the non-understanding of this country? |
I typed too quickly, and failed to review my post. What I wanted to say was,
"That's nonsense. If you can't speak Korean it doesn't preclude you from being able to understand this country." |

| This one is a great source of information for people who want to know what the average western university graduates are. |

| You simply label people "apologists" at any slightest comment favoring Korea when in fact this site is full of "western apologist". |
Being an apologist for the West is no worse than being an apologist for Korea. Most people in the world favour their own culture over others - that is a fact of life. A Korean in Australia will, inevitably, draw parrallels between her life there and her life back home, and may eventually proceed to discuss her observations on a message board. After all, she would have every right to. The same goes for a Saudi settling into San Fransisco.
In some cases, a person who favours another culture over their own may be trying a bit too hard to be "exotic" or "subversive". Or, perhaps, they are just blindly imitating.
On the other hand, favouring other cultures could be a wise and constructive way of looking at the world. For example, an American living in South Korea may admire the relative lack of street crime. A Saudi woman living in Australia may admire the greater emphasis on personal freedom and sexual equality.
Your opinion may be based on facts or on personal tastes. In the end, the only person you will succeed in convincing is yourself. |
