Mine are fairly clear to me now:
1) To articulately rebuff any stupidity.
2) To be able to argue with Koreans on a wide rangeing, different issues.
3) To be more effective in the workplace: I want to know whats going down at all times and be one step ahead of the boss.
4) To chat up women who speak no English.
5) To correct any bigotted opinons/attitudes I may overhear.
6) To ease my translation skills in the classroom.
7) To help spread the word about protecting the environment to koreans.
8 ) To make better friendships...and get with all those cool Koreans I missed out on because I couldn't speak their language.
9) To enhance my career options here. |
wow, can't wait for korea to be transformed by you and your amazing korean abilities.. how long do we all have to wait for the glorious day. |
hahaha, yeah, I can imagine some Korean guy rolling his eyes as rapier prattles on in his busted korean about 'bigoted attitudes.' Unless maybe his korean is excellent, but I somehow doubt that he'd deign to properly learn the language of a country where he's so much smarter than everybody.
I wonder, rapier. While you're chatting up girls who speak no english, do you take the opportunity to lecture them about racism and the environment? or do you just stick to rebuffing their stupidity? |

| Mine are all the same as Rapier, bar number four (alternate men for women). Also - crazymongelgirl: that's exactly the same reason I picked it up backfor when I go home to NZ and try to get into Mfat...cool. |

I know I'm going to get flamed but I already know enough languages that cover what is spoken in about 60 % of the world.

Really? 60% eh?
Thats a pretty high figure.
At any rate, not everyone has to learn Korea here. It is just a choice.
As for Rapier, his motivations are his own. I do doubt how far he will get with that motivation though. |
