He sounds like another insecure, middle-aged confucian fart who needs to have his dubious status validated at every turn in this very vertical society, and foreign teachers are bound to be the easiest targets to subjugate, by virtue of not knowing how that meaningless and archaic game is played. It's your call, but 'greet' him out of your own courtesy, not out of obligation.
