Agreed. We don't know how close you were to this girl-- you do. But I would make it clear that this is a one-time gift to help her out, and not the beginning of a monthly allowance. $100 is two month's pay at a good job in Vietnam, and it's a temptation to be greedy, even if her intentions and needs are honest.

Hell, my friend's dad went to visit an old fling about a month after a request for money, and he found her substantially heavier. .
( she wasn't pregnant either)

If you care about her, offer to send less and check her reaction. If you don't care about her as at least a good friend, or if this was out of the blue and she hadn't contacted you before, it's not worth it.

I'm sensing you're kind of a cynic. Razz
A few years ago I was in Angeles for (seriously) non sex related purposes and I swear every time I was in an internet cafe I'd be sitting next to some bar girl typing sweet talking crap to some sucker back in his home country. "I love you honey. When you come back?" That type of shit. The better ones would send off similar successive emails to different guys. Almost like a modern day 419 scam preying on Johns' lonliness. They were hookers though, and while I'm not suggesting Jajdudes' chick was a ho, in poorer countries it's definitely a finer line between outright cash for sex and cash for a relationship. Chicks from western countries can tut tut all they like, but I think when you grow up in a bamboo hut drinking from the buffalo water trough money is a far greater need than love.
Trust your instinct Jajdude. Sounds like you're suspicious which you have the right to be, but you know the girl better than any of us. Like I said before, what's the worst you lose....? 4 or 5 hours pay...?

At the risk of being roasted here:

Quote:
Well we were just together for a few months or so.

Not a very long time - especially to be asking for money.

Quote:
I gave her my email

Nice way to stay in contact.

Quote:
She wants a little cash.

And you are surprised by this because.......

Quote:
I guess I'm dumb if I help

I think you answered your own question.

Quote:
A hundred is a lot to her perhaps

Maybe so, but that is her problem.

Quote:
not so much to me

I wish I had your problem.

Quote:
Still

Sounds like you're not trusting your gut reaction to the request.

Quote:
Am I dumb to help a girl in need?

As a general question no of course you are not dumb. But in this case.........

It seems like you are fighting your own gut reaction/instinct in this case. You might want to think about your hesitancy. If everything was O.K. in your mind would you have even posted the question on Dave's?

i agree with trevorcollins. obviously the man has had a myriad of similar experiences with girls and hookers mentioned in this thread and still maintains a good head of his shoulders. way to go, brother!

btw, trev, can you recommend a website or mail order thingy where a friend of mine can hook up with philippino girls? the next time he goes there he doesn't want to be looking around everynight for some nookie. last time there, he heard about guys going there and being met by really cool looking hot philippino chicks they met over the internet and hanging with them for their entire vacation!

help a brother out, trev? Cool

Haha. Yeah.

It won't be the last time she asks for money. She's just warming up.

I think you should help her; there really are never enough suckers to help feed these SEA girls, what-with their lazy fathers, brothers, other boyfriends, etc.

If it were me I'd offer her 1000 won per nude picture of her and her friends that she can produce-up to 100.

Give her a little self esteem while she's at it; people really resent charity so it's best she feels like she's working for it, IMHO...

If you care about her, send her the money...like you said, a hundred bucks means a lot more to her than it does to you. It might be a "dumb" thing to do, but it's also a nice thing to do.

Its good to help the less fortunate once in a while- especially former friends or lovers. We are fortunate westerners: they are not.

Sadly, poverty and desperation quickly erases morality out of the picture. Wether a S.E Asian girl genuinely loves you or not (Conundrum of the modern backpacker, haha), they have to survive.
Some of them lead desperate lives...prostitution is the easiest or only way to make cash for some: others have kids or are under strict family obligation to help with financial support. "Love" is irrelevant: they will do whatever necessary to make ends meet.
The average young S.E Asian woman has to help support ageing parents who can no longer work, a never-ending host of regular new family additions, lazy/unemployed brothers/aunts/uncles (who sponge and bleed them dry), etc etc. you get the picture.
Its tough for them.
