| I think I'd like to work in some islands for awhile, but all that vacation paradise can get old pretty quickly. I am fascinated with Iceland! I've never been there, but I really want to go. What the heck are they doing up there besides inbreeding and minding their own business? I'm quite curious. And I love some music that comes out of there, especially Bjork and Sigur Ros. Apprently Sigur Ros sings in "hopelandic" ...some kind of offshoot of icelandic? How wild is that? So yeah, maybe I'd head up there for a little while. I dont understand the fascination with Europe. I've been many times and it just seems so stale. After Iceland, if I needed the money and had to work there, I'd head back to the states. A moderately-sized beach city sounds ideal right about now. |

Not only that, but Canada's apparently not an option. Nor is Europe or a few other regions. Thus DW's and most of Mithridates' answer is disqualified: RRRRRRR!!! (<-- obnoxiously loud buzzer sound) Along with my answers, too. I mean, why can't I go to Antarctica or Jupiter if I want to?
Beyond that, I think it's time for some ugly prediction threads. Like, Which country do you thing will lay the smackdown on which other country first, d'ya think? And will it come too fast for us to get out of harm's way? And would you flee if you could?
If there's any bright side to all of this (and there isn't) it's that the Norks have suddenly been relegated to the back page where they've always belonged. And I for one am personally hoping and are having major conniptions because of that. |
Why isnt Europe an option? |

| Depends: If I feel greedy somewhere in the mideast- UAE. Kuwait, Oman. If I feel sane someplace in Europe, most likely Poland (depressive central) or some northern European place like Finland. And if I feel the need to save my soul with some charity work I may go for TanzEd. If none of the above then probably Vietnam. |

Africa!
Spent 89-91 in Botswana - and it was GREAT!
UAE if I needed money, Mexico if not.
Hopefully Thailand - would stay as great as it is. |

To me, (after spending nearly a year in Europe), its a worse option than going back home.
The money isn't that good.. and its not all that different than being back home in North America.. except that North America has A LOT more opportunities for working, jobs, money, lifestyle, etc. (unless you are a EU citizen).
For me, Asia is #1.. closely followed by North America as #2.. and South America (Brazil in particular) as #3. |

| Depends where I could get a decently-paying job. I'm not greedy but I don't like dumping myself into poverty when I don't have to. Would probably go get a master's degree and then head to Dubai, my great uncle lives there and he could probably help me get set up. |

| If not back home to Alaska, then probably South America. That's my plan for when I leave Korea anyway, but that won't be for a few more years. My options are going to be a bit limited though, since I have a very LARGE dog going with me. |

South america holds a lot of appeal to me as well. After korea you definitely need some rip roaring adventure, culture, and tropical flavor. The lack of financial reward may be an insignificant factor after a while. |

This is what kept me from going there in the first place... and is the same reason why I won't be leaving Korea for awhile. I was originally looking into Mexico, but the jobs that actually paid (most were volunteer opportunities) were somewhere around $400 per month--more than enough to live on in Mexico. The only problem was that my student loan payments were $500 per month. Now, I'm pretty bad at math, but even I could figure that one out.
Now that I'm out of the ESL scene and into the foreign school circuit, I might be able to find a decent paying job. But, I've decided to stay here till my student loans are paid off. Then I can go anywhere I want and money won't be an issue. |

| That's my plan too. I spent the first year playing around too much so the loans weren't paid that well, but these days, I spend the majority of my check. I can't stand to stay here for another year, unless I get a uni job. But after the loans are finished, either S. America, Finland or Thailand. I had an ex who taught in Finland for 3 years and loved it. I'm also thinking about it. |
