This year immigration (and other government offices) are only open on alternate Saturdays.

Next year, they will only be open on weekdays.

It is just standard procedure for the ARC. You will get your passeport back.

If you are truly worried register with your embassy and perhaps you could have made a copy of your passeport (important pages) yourself prior to giving it to immigration.
