On driving:

I weave my scooter in and out of traffic, and basically drive 50% of the time between two cars. It's safer here (although still dangerous) because people back home don't know to watch for it.

With that said, Koreans dart in and out of lanes without looking. I hate that. The Confuscist mentality they have when they walk -- ignorning others -- bleeds through into their driving, too, to a point. I just always assume no one can see me, and i've been OK so far.

The reason why people turn off the headlights at red lights is to avoid flashing them in the eyes of drivers in the opposite lane. Its not so stupid. Actually, I do it myself and I appreciate when other drivers do it. So it really isnt as stupid as you think.

Perhaps if they turned their highbeams off they wouldn't be shining it into other peoples eyes. It is as stupid as I think! Countless times I have driven up to an intersection late at night and had the nasty surprise of a car lurking in the darkness with it's lights off! Too often the morons forget to turn them on again and spend the rest of the night driving around causing a hazard. It's a stupid habit for stupid people. How often do lights back home that aren't on high beam shine into your eyes? Common, what a load of bollocks!

As for neighbors, mine are great. We often get food given to us and they are way more friendly than back home.

I hate lights shining into my rear view mirror and I dont like them shining into my eyes when Im waiting at a red light. Its not a stupid habit, it makes sense. I wonder how many of you guys who complain about driving here have actually done any driving in Seoul or in Korea.

Yes I wonder too, because unless the lights are on high beam or some moron has tilted them up then they pose no problems and don't blind you. The problem is that a large % of the driving population seem to drive with their lights on full or adjusted incorrectly.

"Have you heard of saunas? Koreans use them all the time for hygene. Koreans are constantly grooming themselves."
Not only have I heard of Saunas, but I frequent them. This is where the spitting bothers me most..at least aim for a drain, bud..I don't like playing dodge the lung butter in the showers.

THANK YOU, Fidel..so true. As long as you don't have your highbeams on, headlights don't bother me. And the fact that it makes the car much harder to see at lights (or when they forget to put them back) cancels out any benefit.

My pet peeve is the womens shoes and how they wear them. I absolutely hate the noise they make while walking, either not lifting their feet and scuffing every single step, or else just clack-clackety-clomp-clomp-clack. It's so LOUD. Please someone bring back wedge soled brothel creepers.

Don't really agree with these three. Coming from the UK.

The cinema's themselves aren't much different but it's the manners of the audience that makes the difference. I've seen people in Korea not only receive calls during the movie but actually make calls! And what's with little kids going to late shows with their Moms and Dads?? I mean 2 year-olds in the cinema at 12am watching Lord of the Rings. Scary stuff for a 2 year old. Then they start crying!!!

If you find a Korean hairshop who can cut your hair how you like it then you're a lucky man. My barber back home knows exactly what to do!

Most electronics are cheaper in the UK than Korea.

Samsung, LG..Koreans do electronics far better than Europeans. Especialally Brits. Doesnt matter where its cheaper. Koreans do electronics far better. Thats why Korea, not the UK ia a world leader in electronics.

Not the point. The point is KOREAN companies make better electrinucs than British ones. THATS the point.

No DW. That's the point you made. You changed the point.

My point wasn't about quality. It was about price. I was referring to the poster above me.

the "work place" (and i use the term 'work' very loosely) is a disorganized place no matter what part of the world you're in.

On the way home from work tonight (5 minute walk) I saw 3 cars without DRIVING (not sitting) without headlights. Thats 2 more than I see in an average WEEK back home. Its an unsafe, stupid idea.

DW..E.S.A.D.

I ride a motorbike, and it bothers me that people often fail to dip their lights (i.e. they leave them on high beam). Also people often have their fog lights on too, this bothers me more actually - as people seem to have no inkling as to why and when you should use them!

All very annoying for bikers.... but these days I'm used to it..

As for dipping lights at the traffic lights, people don't do this in the UK as you just don't wait all that long for them to go green, here they can take 5 minutes or so, perhaps dipping could be seen as a sensible thing.
