Of my own free will? Portland Or or rural WA. To get my old job back... likely New Mexico.

Did you enjoy New Mexico? How's the job market? What's the "best" city to live in, in your opinion (think overall in terms of jobs, entertainment, etc, etc.)

I've only seen pictures, but the architecture is gorgeous and the area in general looks appealing to me. I've thought about moving there, but just don't know anything about the state.

I have no frickin' clue, as I spent every year that I can remember in Hampton Roads. So I could basically live wherever. Would love to live in San Fran or NYC, but that crap's expensive.

I'd love to go back to North Canterbury and buy a wee lifestyle block somewhere near Waikari, Hawarden or Culverden. Somewhere where I can have an uninterrupted view of the mountains...

Somewhere like this:

If you work there.. its not much different than working in Japan. Meaning your wages should reflect living costs.

I was thinking maybe Hawaii, Oregon or the DC area.

Montreal, without a doubt. It's got the French thing going on, which I like (I'm gearing towards sending my kids to French school, to get a third language), it would be great for me to teach English there (teacher shortage), but it's English/multicultural enough for my wife to not feel too isolated.

That's not to mention the fantastic summers with events like the International Jazz Festival, the Grand Prix, The Just For Laughs Festival, tons of concerts, and hockey, skiing other fun snow activities, as well as Le Carnaval up the street in Quebec City in winter.

Other biggish cities in Canada woud be alright, but I've got that French-Canadian blood running through my veins! Very Happy

Blast from the past!

My answer has changed a lot since 2005. I certainly wouldn't consider Washington DC at all...maybe not even Oregon (although I like the politics/culture a lot of that state).

Lately I've been thinking Nevada, Florida or Hawaii...just want somewhere warm with palm trees.

I've just recently made the decision to move to Vancouver this summer. Leaving Korea is hard though. It took me a little over a year to actually get here, and it's taking me at least that long to get out. The thing is, I don't really want to go, but I know I should.

Florida wouldn't be bad. You could even continue teaching ESL. Laughing

More a set of conditions than an actual specific place:

1) Cost of living lower than Seoul
2) Cost of housing much lower than Seoul
3) Employment opportunities (university or college)
4) Warm year round or with mild, mild winters
5) Proximity to leisure options (water, hiking, biking...)

Taken together, these conditions rule out Hawaii, California and most of the N.E. seaboard. Somewhere in 'The South' might be an option depending on an exact location specifics. Hey, have you ever heard of anyone retiring and moving north?
