My co-worker says he keeps this job for the vacation. I have to agree. If they cut out my vacation, I'd be gone too.

My "minder" postulates that Gyeonggido province is tired of foreigners in GEPIK saying "well my friend at X school gets Y weeks off in the summer, why don't I"?, so they are trying to get all public\private schools in the province to have uniform two week vacations for their pet foreigners.

Got to agree with Toby here...it looks like public school jobs are sucking donkeys balls....I don't think i will ever work at one just after looking at all the crap you GEPIK guys have been through this year.

My school kicks butt...well I work at a hagwon but it kicks butt anyway...

The only difference is that public school experience counts for something on your resume, hagwons don't.

Okay...why are you teaching right through? Are you raking in an extra load of cash?

Vacation time is important for teachers...we need it to recharge and refresh. All I know is my ass is dragging after 4 months of teaching with sweet F all for a break. Unfortunately my lessons are suffering for it too. I am just not as motivated as I was back in March...or ...April..or..even May.

Can happily keep going. Unfortunately my lessons are suffering for it too. I am just not as motivated as I was back in March...or ...April..or..even May.

I've just completed the Questionnaire on "English Class with Foreign Teachers" (for foreign teachers)...........that's the title on this thing.

It asks a bunch of questions, and then you have an opportunity to include other comments.

This is EXACTLY what I said:

My exact reasons for NOT re-signing are:

1. No raise

2. lack of vacation time

3. excessive number of non-teaching hours in the school, particularly during winter and summer vacations.

I also pointed out to them that private institutes generally require significantly fewer hours on site for the same amount of money. I also mentioned that GEPIK is competing with universities for qualified teachers, and that generally universities offer significantly fewer hours and significantly longer vacations for comparable money.

I included as well that I was treated fine by my P and VP and co-teacher. Although, my main co-teacher at times drove me up the wall because she borders on being anal retentive. She is not mean, simply over does it in the I AM A SLAVE TO MY BOSS DEPARTMENT AND MUST BE PERFECT.

I am gone at the end of August. Who knows whether my comments, or those of other GEPIK teachers, will improve conditions for new teachers. I sincerely hope so.
