I doubt whether the phrase came from anything to do with Sing Sing prison, even by a rock band calling it a deathhouse.

Perhaps "death" was picked up from looking in a dictionary (the source of many absurd sentences created by adult Korean students) and was meant to convey "not living" as in: before birth.

Singing then would be a way of bringing life to a baby, a belief an adult Korean student of mine has expressed before.

"sing, sing, death, baby"

A theory.
