I heard it's easy to pick up Christian chicks at events like this. Is it true? |

How do christians get that smug smirk just right? I can't look that self-satisfied no matter how I try! |

I suppose people make those remarks about Christians because of the false and naive they tend to make...you know, people who think the bible should be in the "Reference" section of the library instead of "Fiction". |

I do not understand at all the amount of "Christian-bashing" that goes on in these forums. If someone gets on here and makes remarks about gays, or makes racist statements, you would really tell that person off. Yet, somehow it seems OK to make totally false and naive statements about Christians.
Think about how hypocritical THAT is. |
Christians are bash-worthy because we sane people think your views are so wacky that we can't stand back and tolerate such nonsense.
Gay's and people of color tend not to make outrageous statements (unless they are christian! ), like, "the earth is only 6000 years old because we added up the ages of the people in the bible and it came to 6000." Come on!!!
If christians complain about getting bashed on forums like this then just examine why people are bashing you. |

Should black people get jeered at for what Louis Farrahkan says? Why should I get spit on because of something some other Christian said?
I do have a sense of humour, and I know that many Christian claims sound ridiculous. I don't take "bashing" personally because I'm liberal according to some, and fundamentalist when compared to others. It's impossible to lump me in with a bunch of "wackos" without taking the time to hear what I think of the Bible, and how I think Christians should behave.
I think that when someone makes generalizations (especially nasty ones) it says more about that person than it does about the faith. In my view, it tends to characterize that person as hasty, judgemental and ignorant.
I've endured unbelievable disrespect from people who haven't even bothered to read the Bible, and it amazes me that people can be so sure of their own personal dogma and quick to stereotype others. |

I know very well that christians come in all flavours. From wacky Jehova's Witness's (did you know man never walked on the moon because the bible says "Man shall walk the Earth"?) to very sensible people who are tolerant and rational. But until, we know what type you are we can't have a discourse. |

Agreed. By all means criticise the fanatics who try to shove their views down your throat, but to make blanket statements like "Christians are this" and "Christians are that" belies a fear common to all self-styled intellectuals - that the societal order of ranking as they see it could get turned on it's head.
To the academically inclined:
good/worthy/superior = empirical, scientific, doubting, worldly
bad/unworthy/inferior = guided by faith, seeing the supernatural in things, other-worldly
Christians, even the nice ones, are a threat to this view - hence you often see intelligent, educated people become guilty of the very same kind of bigotry which they profess to be above. How dare some rustic, uneducated, illogical person actually claim that they may outrank me in some way! Impossible! They are all fools! How could they not see that MY world view, the one where I am of high rank, is the right one!
I respect your right to make your own decisions, and to live as you choose. As for me, my faith makes me strong. Why should you mock that? |

i'm not a christian, probably never will be. i just don't feel i can support an organized religion with the kind of history that christianity has, and its stance on homosexuality (i know there are a few sects that don't see homosexuality as wrong, but not enough imo).
that doesn't mean i'm going to make fun of christians, just as long as they don't try to shove their beliefs down my throat. i have friends that are christian, and we've stayed friends because neither of us has tried to convert the other. |
