Badmojo, I wonder why you chose that particular sum -- 1.2 million won/month. I'm also surprised that 1.2 mil. won is more than the average teacher earns in the other places you mentioned. (In _Western_ Europe? *shudder* A government handout for doing nothing might pay better. Seriously.)

Rather than the poll you've got here, I think it would be more interesting (and damned intrusive, too) if people had to state the lowest salary they'd consider before leaving Korea.

In Western Europe, a lot of the jobs are part-time, like 10 hours a week. Good luck finding a place that'll give you 20 hours a week. In that way, it's a lot like Canada, where the going rate is ten bucks an hour. Teachers there better have two or three jobs.

1.2 is definitely more than most of the jobs in South America and Africa too. There's no doubt about that.

Maybe you're right that I should have worded the poll differently. I chose 1.2 because I see that as enough money to live on in Korea. You may not save anything, but you won't be going hungry either. I also chose it because as I said, it's still more money than a lot of teachers make elsewhere in the world.

Basically what it comes down to is, would you work here if you couldn't save money? I wanted to take that out of the equation.

I think that "cleared" is the operative word here. If you have 1.2 mil AFTER paying apt fee, food, transport, etc, then that would be good (as in SAVING 1.2 a month). But if the OP meant MAKING 1.2....FORGET IT!!!
