I've seen one that was not so good. Their native speaker was like an over paid tape recorder. |
I saw one rehearsed halloween class where the teacher was showing the students the origination of halloween. He then delved a little too far from his expertise, trying to teach them the geography of the UK. Unfortunately, he forgot to include Wales.
I was polite and didn't say anything. Another teacher at the Open Class wasn't so kind. |

Not sure if that's sarcasm or not, but assuming not, I actually never left completely -- I still read the job discussion board and question and answer board, and post occasionally.
If you are being sincere, then, thanks. |

Absolutely sincere!
I remember seeing a post of yours a few months back saying goodbye... that you were spending too much time on Dave's. I remember thinking you were one of the more level-headed posters here, so I was sad to see you go.
Welcome back. |

In my experience open classes are total shams. I've been to one and our school has put on two, and in all of them it was obvious to anyone with a brain that the students had been coached and drilled on the correct answers to everything.
In the class we attended at a different school the lesson presented was pretty terrible, it was all over the place and the movie clip was an awful choice. It was clearly just for show. Unfortunately two of the native speakers who attended failed to realize what everybody else did and were quite indignant, really lighting into the host school's teacher.
Our classes were somewhat more real, the kids spent two weeks putting together their own presentations and doing their own research. Even so everything was scripted in a way a real class never is, with rehearsals and everything. The only person who benefited was our principal, who got to look good and generally strut and preen. Pretty much just a waste of time all around. |

I highly doubt that those who ruined their open classes would dare to post the stories here.
Once again, it amuses me to find that the most whining bunch usually don't participate in productive threads like this one. |
