I've read somewhere that murder rates, adultery and schizophrenia are as common among the Bushmen as among other cultures. Sorry, don't remember where I read it. The thrust of the article is that it's a mistake to romanticize them.

It's odd that rapier says their culture is respected by Afrikaaners and British. When did they stop hunting them down and killing them? It wasn't all that long ago, was it?

Let me make it clear I believe all men and women are equal - all have intrinsic worth and value. However, sadly sometimes aspects of cultures are just plain foolish, and more evil than good. An example would be the Mongols who destroyed Russian cities with all the learning and art (and people) developed over the ages, simply for the pleasure of conquest- same goes for the early Vikings who held glory and Valhalla as won should they die pillaging an English Sea Town or peaceful monastery. And of course the savages like the Aztecs whose priests would eat sacrificial victims, Northwestern American Indianas had slaves, the other American Indianans who cut off bits of their fingers and would torture themselves by hanging suspended from their own flesh, and the wacky cannibals who would eat each other; not to mention the war they had with each other long before any Euro came. Now granted some American Indian tribes or other primitive societies, may well have been more kindly than King Richard who razed orchards and approved as his troops raped and killed every soul in a captured French village. But, ahhh still in many ways the British brought about a better society to the ones they conquered and became an overbearing Cultural Father to. Those ladies in India who would throw themselves or were forced to throw themselves on the burning bodies of their dead husbands was another retarded aspect of a culture the proper British corrected.
