But their contract isn't fair to the teacher. I am not taking the job. |

when did you apply? there should be a large influx of applicants at this time, so it might be lost in the mix. i applied in december and officially got the offer earlier this month. so it takes them a while |

I applied Mid February and even had a contact to personally send the e-mail.
I was just sorta annoyed that no one even responded to my e-mails about questions I have. So now that I see people are getting offers, I'm thinking I'm out of the running. |

the entire place like a gulag (every single room is constantly monitored by CCTV even the staff room!) |
Sad, but not unnecessary in McLanguage Schools. They just glance at it once in a while to make sure you're not seated at the desk reading while the kids do worksheets all the time. I wouldn't get too stressed out about it. It's not like the teachers there are professionals, so what would you expect? |

I worked at TPR Apgujeong. I thought it was a great place to work. Yes they monitor you on CCTV, but if you're doing your job, teaching, then you have nothing to worry about.
Some criticisms I have were that they were a little slow in getting certain things to the teachers in TPR housing -- for example, internet connection and housing items.
Also, a lot of your paycheque is deducted for housing, taxes, insurance, etc. --but this has more to do with living in Seoul than the company itself.
Other than that, there is a lot of work involved in terms of preparation, which you don't get paid for, but the prep you do beforehand helps you be a more effective teacher in the classroom.
They pay on time, reimburse you for visa costs, answer your questions, and do what they can to keep teachers happy. That was my experience anyway.
Obviously, no work situation will be perfect...don't expect it to be. When it comes to TPR Apgujeong, the good far outweighs the bad. |

So are all TPR teachers required to write admission essays for their students or do you some of you just do it of your own volition.
Just curious. |

I'm thinking about doing the summer intensive program. Has anyone been through it? If so, can you respond to this message. I have some questions I would like answered and I would like to get all the help I can get!
Thanks. |

I've been in the SAT/AP/TOEFL field for about 10 years, 5 in Korea (teaching in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Daechi, and Bundang) and would be more than happy to answer any PMs about test prep + related gigs (though my experience is not with TPR).
Specifically I'm always happy to hear from people who are passionate about prep and in it for the longer term. It's a very small scene, the test prep circuit here in Seoul, and it's definitely good to network. |

Isn't it funny how seedy institutions adopt such prestigious sounding names. ('Princeton Review", or 'The Foreign Language Testing and Training Center" at Hankuk University). I have more respect for schools that don't pretend to be anything other than a get rich quick sheme. 'Happy Banana English School'; "Gag English Academy"; "Donkey English School"; "B.O. English"......I have more respect for these places than schools / unikwons with important sounding names but are simply hogwans run by an unethical ajoshi. |
