Be thankful it wasn't the usual alternative that most of us would undertake. i.e running the sucker over in an SUV.
And reversing. |

Well, now.....
This has never happened to me or anyone else I know in Korea. Perhaps something you are doing is leading to the repetition of this event. |
Have to agree with this. I also wonder at jajdudes extreme timidity. I can almost imagine him jumping on the boxcarts to Auschwitz. |
hilarious. |

The old dude probably was worried about you, since you were drunk off of your butt.
Be thankful that people like him are watching out for you. Someone who hated you for being a foreigner would have just kicked you or something.
Nothing personal, but it sounds as if you've got a real drinking problem. I'd do something about that before the next guy decides to roll you and steal your wallet.

This is funny and sad. I was drunk, and cannot remember too much. For some reason a Korean guy 40 or 50 years old took me to a cop station. Then he tried to explain why to the cop. But there was no explanation! The cop looked at him, looked at me, drunk and forlorn, and we all laughed, except this ajosshi was a bit embarrassed, perhaps from his own xenophobia or something. Weird. So I went out and got a cab home. And this is probably the third time this has happened to me.
I have a friend who has been in Korea a long time! It happened to him back when foreigners were real scarce. This must be the residue of that old fear of foreigners that still persists. Honestly, I did nothing to bother this older dude, other than being a white drunk guy I guess. |
You really need to get off the bottle. |
Second that. Jajdude seems like a well meaning fellow but his stories about drinking, missing work, having friends dine and dash on him, moving around, always thinking the next city he ends up in will result in lasting happiness... oi... it all screams "drinking problem". |

Jajdude be careful. Sometimes nasty things can happen if you get yourself into a state like that. If you were having blackouts you could have been doing all sorts of strange things that you don't remember!
I've seen the police helping out incredibly drunk Korean guys here often. Sometimes the drunks dont want to get help and the police are usually pretty cool with that, but try and help them anyway. A couple of areas I've lived in have huge amounts of drunken zombie like ajoshis at certain times and the police do try and help them.
Echoing other concerned posters please be careful with drinking Jajdude, know your limits. Some people do get a bit silly-I have myself on a few occasions- when they drink too much on a night out. Fortunatley I've been lucky, but I've got friends who have got themselves in all sorts of trouble by drinking too much.
Drinking is fun but too much can have heavy consequences. Be careful. |

True words. I knew one guy who stole a bicycle, rode it for two blocks, then threw it on the pavement. After that the guy ran to the nearest taxi and made a quick exit.
Talk about leaving a good impression, I mean Koreans love us so much as it is. |

| A few people I've known over the years who drank heavily finally got help--turned out they were drinking in an attempt to self-medicate a chemical imbalance problem in their brain. More common than one might think. Sober and on mild anti-depressants, they're a whole lot happier and healthier. |

I have found antidepressants helpful in the past but they also bring on some unpleasant effects, not as bad as a heavy drinker's hangovers though.
They are useful when one finds it hard to function normally. |

Any addiction can be traced to a chemical imbalance created in some way, shape, or form. The brain is nothing more than a chemical/electrical sponge. |

Had you been Korean, nobody would have helped you. It's not rare to witness guys still passed out on the sidewalk at 10 am after a night of partying with friend because nobody could be bothered to do anything that would show they care whether the poor schmuck lives or dies of exposure. |

May be true hollywood,
But you might also have seen that a drunk passed out in public rarely gets harrassed. (I moved a guy once who was on the side of the street though. )
You'd figure someone would try to steal the passed out drunk's wallet or something.
(and I'm not sure I needed help. I did walk out after a bit there, and get a cab home.) |

Come on BB, don't be niaive.
My mind goes back to '97 when you practically couldn't step out of the house without English practice wannabees stalking you with a vengeance and complicating the daily commute to the slavewon. |
