You know in the bible where there is that story where god tell the guy to pick the people who cup the water from the lake to fight rather than the people who just sucked the water straight from the lake.
Well what happened if the people were to cup and suck?
Would they be able to fight or not?
Need some help from some religious nuts please. |
Far from a religious nut, but I still remember the stories from the days before my conversion...
If you mean cup and the suck from their hand, then yes, they could go.
If you mean both cup the water and suck from the river, than no.
The point was, those who cupped the water kept the eyes open for enemies, whereas those who sucked the water were unprepared for an attack. They needed only the best, keenest soldiers.
edit - I see my fellow atheist, guangho, has already responded. Shouldn't the ones who actually believe this stuff be responding? |
If your explanation is correct, and I think it probably is, it makes me wonder why Yahweh needed only the best of the best if his purpose was to keep the people from taking credit for what they'd done. In essence, he was going to prove his power through victory despite odds, so wouldn't he have been better off sending the cripples and bad fighers?
Also, where did Gideon get the 300 jars from? That's sort of an odd accoutrement to carry on your supply line, isn't it?
I think this is a cool story, though. It's interesting how ancient people personified the collectiveness of their cultures. |

I believe that most people see this and the following answers as provocation. It does say and I am paraphrasing. "Don't get involved in stupid arguments about your faith". If someone wan'ts to believe good for them and if they don't then good for them.
I find the arguments against Christians and religious people prolytzing (?) rather ironic considering the crap that I had to put up with in Uni from my lecturers. Everyone is selling something, religion, science, athiesm, capitalism, socialism, Satanism. Everyone is selling something.
Listen to those who have thier reasons why they don't like something. They don't like what you believe in but they are happy to tell you what they believe in.

If it is so obvious, why are you selling the same old facts regurgitated by a thousand mouths before you.

I mean you have views, I understand this, but then you regurgitate someone elses view as support for your own. What I am trying to say is that you like many others have a disagreement with something, a disagreement that is probably influenced by those who came before you. Step out of the box, be unique.[/quote] |

No jars so far as I know. Just "cupping" the water with their hands and drinking it. |

Jars to cover the torches. Read the bible again.
Not sure what relevance this argument has today except to show that God is stronger then man, in that he can take 300 men and make 10x or is it 10+ that number run away from fear.
Regardless, it was written as a victory. |
