Back to topic, perks are almost as important as pay "these days." 1.9, 2.2, 2.3, it's not so much of a difference. The most important perk, if you can call it that is a pleasant work environment where everyone is respected and feels comfortable and welcome. Sad to call that a perk, but, before AC or free lunch, that would be my number one choice of something extra.

Fine, but how do you work that 'pleasant work environment where everyone is respected and feels comfortable and welcome' into an employment contract? 2.3 million won will always be 2.3 million won (barring massive devaluation), and an A/C will still be an A/C (unless it breaks down) long after that ideal work environment turns into hell on wheels because .... bosses change, owners change, coworkers change, students change, workloads/hours increase, office atmospheres turn nasty, etc.

Yeah, keys = more responsibility. If something goes missing, you are an automatic suspect too.

Dear friends,
this is exactly why ex-pat teachers are being delegitimized and marginalized. As long as we avoid responsibility, we are hardly in a position to complain about being side-lined and left out of many decisions.

I'm here to teach for a couple years and go home. I'm out to make manager.
