I've bought two Nikons, and they are crud in low-light. I wouldn't have bought Nikon again, but a friend gave me a deal.

I simply don't understand what Ajumma is saying. Just put it in auto mode, and the Sony does great.

Take a look at the P100 or P150. Anything over 3 megapixels is plenty for you.

I'm sold on the Sony P150.

What ballpark price should I pay in Korea? If I go to a dealer, presumably I'll have to haggle.

But if I try at an E Mart type mega store, presumably the price is what you see?? Just bought a jacket at a Save Zone, which is quite big. They discounted almost in half without my asking. Took me by surprize on account of large store ethos.

I want best price, because the purchase is an extravagence and already there's a premium on Korean electronics.

My gratitude to people who give info.

If you have a thousand bucks buy a Leica... the Leica digital is absolutely amazing. It's listed as a 5 mpixel camera but the images look as good as anything in national geographic. In fact, I have a photographer friend who's been using it for digital shoots and all the clients are startled to find out the camera's specs...
Pricey but such is the business of buying good things.

Between 350,000 and 400,000 for the P150, I'd say.

But honestly, I consider it overkill. Go for the P100 (5 megapixels) and spend the difference on a good sized memory card.

Or, hey, I see Sony now has a P200, which looks like the P150 spec-wise, but is an update of sorts.

P 200 that's the one for me.

I think I'll compare prices between p150 and p200.

thanks bigblackequus

Sony has always been a company that's more about good style/design than product performace, I won't buy anything that company makes.

Panasonic makes great digital cameras that come equipped with a Leica lens, image stabilization (panasonic's patented technology that other cameras don't have), and 10x optical zoom on mid-range models.

Fuji finepix is a brand you can't go wrong with also.

I had a 4 megapixel Panasonic but I gave it to my mom and got myself the new Samsung #1. Ultra thin and compact, takes gorgeous photos, the highest quality video of all digi's, internal optical zoom lens, the biggest lcd screen there is, 5 megapixels. I didn't like any of Samsung's previous models because the cameras looked clunky and the picture quality seemed very middle of the road. I'm, however, very impressed with this new camera and everyone that has seen it has also been so.

I think Sony cameras look quite nice, and do very well with color.

You can go to this link, choose a camera, then go to the 3rd tab, and see some sample pics. There are also user pics people send in, if you click around. The P200 is pretty new, though, and may not have any:
