Many countries around the world have suffered far worse: famine, starvation and genocide, unending war etc because they departed from the word of God.

Why was christian Rome sacked? How come Tibet was doing just fine without Jesus through most of it's history?

America has in recent decades gone down the same path. You could hardly call the US a christian nation any more: most of the population is atheist.

Protestant 52%, Roman Catholic 24%... none 10%

It seems you are wrong.

Adherence to Christianity has, historically, made nations strong.

Advances in weapons technology has, historically, made nations strong. As well, China and India existed, and have been strong long before jesus supposidly crawled the earth.

Many confess Christ, but don't align their lives to His life.

Depends on what you consider is strong. Rome was once strong, but is no longer the power it is. Could immorality have ursurped it's authority?

Will nuclear techonology make a country strong if it destroys the earth and ultimately itself?

Quote:
I mean, if Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are God's punishment to the US, for example, surely he could do a lot better than that. He could create an earthquake that would completely destroy the country, rip it apart and leave no survivors. He could send fireballs from space, millions of em, to smash into every home. Or, he could just simply will all Americans to drop dead. Or only those he saw fit to kill.

God is long suffering and wants all to be saved. None to perish. He gave the earth 300 years to repent before He sent the flood. Revelations reveals a picture of escalating judgments. Starting with smaller until they become larger and larger. This is because many will reject the love of God and so they will choose to suffer because of their sin.

The wages of sin is death.

God doesn't want to bring judgments, but because people continue to reject His love, then they have to learn the consequence of sin.

The earth is rebelling against its inhabitants. When we turn to Christ in a whole hearted-ness, this brings incremental levels of redemption to the land.

Anyway, I thought God saved his wrath until we were dead, and then judged us. Seems he also lashes out before we die...somewhat indiscriminately I must say...and, as horrible as the hurricanes have been, it's rather feeble compared to what God could do. What's up with these half-arsed gestures?

Part of the equation is the difference between the Old and New Testaments. While some people adhere to both and give them equal balance in deciphering what the Lord is saying, others believe the New Testament was literally a new covenant. The previous based on law and rule cause we were too young and foolish to get the more complicated message; the latter based on morals and ethics with "lahv, sweet lahv" as the primary message and the new bar against which one should measure one's actions.

Thus, big nasty extinction events are replaced by more gentle slaps upside the head. This make sense?

True. You could also look at it as God is an artist. Layering the painting with one layer at a time.

or

Glory to glory for us Christians.

Check out the archives. Some pretty whacky stuff, BUT ... just as much the mainstream media rarely if ever will allow the public be exposed to. Ott is an all-around pretty good host as well Wink
