Dylan probably mellowed out some when he got into chanting (influenced by association with George Harrison.)
Ah, the spirit of the late 60's:
John and Yoko, Timmy Leary, Rosemary, Tommy Smothers, Bobby Dylan, Tommy Cooper, Derek Taylor, Norman Mailer, Allen Ginsberg, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna. All we are saying is give peace a chance. |

I'd say his rendition of Blind Willie McTell is pretty damn incredible as well.

| Got "Chronicles" yesterday.... very good. The guy can turn a phrase, just like in his music I guess. Interesting to finally get a glimpse of the man behind all that good music. I thinks it's cool he waited past 60 to write a story about what he's been through. Some people have a story out before 30 just to make a buck. |

Bob Dylan to host weekly radio music show
Tue Dec 13, 2:49 PM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Legendary folk rocker Bob Dylan will start a new career as a radio DJ when he launches a new weekly music show on XM Satellite Radio next March.
The station said on Tuesday the show would feature music hand-picked by Dylan, writer of some of the enduring classics of popular music since the 1960s such as "Mr Tambourine Man," "Like a Rolling Stone" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'."
"Dylan will offer regular commentary on music and other topics, host and interview special guests including other artists and will take emails from XM subscribers," XM said.
Now 64, Dylan's anti-establishment folk songs were the anthems of a generation and he has released over 44 albums in a career spanning more than four decades.
"Songs and music have always inspired me. A lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I've ever been on the other side of the mic," Dylan said in a statement.
His memoir "Chronicles Vol. 1," published in October 2004, was a huge best-seller in the United States.
XM Satellite and its main rival Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. are battling for supremacy in the nascent market for subscription radio and both have been luring high profile names to their stables to boost their profiles.
XM says it has more than 5 million subscribers.

| Let's hope he's a better DJ than he was an actor. If you ever saw him in Sam Peckinpah's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid you know the meaning of the verb 'to cringe'. But his music for that movie was excellent. 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' was written for (the last movie appearances I think) of Katy Jurado and Chill Wills. Dylan is supposed to have watched their big scene and was so moved that he wrote the song for them. |

No, he's not a good actor.
I think every Dylan fan since Ronaldo and Clara has groaned when it's announced he's going to act again.
The radio show will be interesting. Who can pretend they're not interested in what Dylan thinks is good music!!??
Oh, I downloaded and watched a pretty good copy of No Direction Home. It's bloody fantastic. Maybe I would have liked it to go beyond 1966 but anyway......
When that scene came on at the very end of part 2, when he was called Judas. Then he rips into an amazing version of 'Like a Rolling Stone' after telling the band to, "play it feckin' loud!!". I thought I was going to wet myself. Such a cool moment in music. |

He has had his share. And then some.
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I saw him in concert in the winter of '74, at the height of Watergate. "Like a Rolling Stone" took on a whole new meaning. Chilling. |

Now I'd like to see that film.
Been a fan a long time. A big fan of Bob D.

Absolutely. I grew up with him, and while my musical preferences have shifted over the years, Dylan is always on my play list. |

| Yes, he's not a good actor, but I liked him as Jack Fate in Masked and Anonymous. |

How about Johnny Cash?
There's a film out and saw his autobio recently (called "Cash" I think it was out before 2000, but old Asia guy is out of touch here).
Anyone check it out, film or book? |
