I remember frequent church bombings and militant Islamic fundamentalists sprouting totalitarian ideology when I was in Indonesia prior to 9/11. It's really nothing new to them. But suicide bombers - that's a very scary and unprecedented development. I hope that's not the case here, but I believe that's what they suspect.

Moreover, the main suspect for this bombing is yet another well educated, middle class man. When will people stop bleating on about 'alienation' and 'poverty' and realise that these people are motivated by the Islamic ideology of Jihad and the hatred of infidels that inspires.

Spot on. I encountered people from all walks of life in many parts of Indonesia in the two years I lived there. The friendliest and most welcoming people were almost always those from the low economic end. Even the army guys I met in Timor just prior to the crisis were decent people. It was frequently the nicely dressed, middle to upper class Muslim men in skull caps who went out of their way to make things unpleasant for me.

The first Bali bomber was quite clear (and unrepentant) about why he carried out the bombings. It was to punish foreigners for committing all kinds of un-Islamic acts in a muslim country (Indonesia). I'm sure that they are also motivated by a desire to bring the 'idol worshippers' (Hindus) into the wonderful Shariah state they are hoping for.

I heard that the first Bali bombing was revenge for Australias' support of Timor's independence.

He explicitly mentions Australia again in his third reason. "Australia had taken part in efforts to separate East Timor from Indonesia, which was an international conspiracy by followers of the Cross."

Bin Laden wants Timor back, just like he wants Spain back.

That was also one of the reasons. As I have stated many times, the grievances of these groups are many and they change according to their needs. Of course, such Islamic groups were none to happy that an infidel nation helped the Christian East Timorese secede from Indonesia, as they consider it to be muslim land.

Abu Bakar Bashir, spiritual leader of Jemaah Islamiyah, condemns the attacks while calling them 'warnings from Allah'. Lovely.

HARDLINE Indonesian Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, who is imprisoned for his role in the 2002 Bali bombings, today condemned the weekend blasts on the resort island.

"I really disapprove of bombings in non-conflict areas for whatever reason, including in Bali, because it can be almost certain that innocent and unknowing victims would fall," Bashir said.

In the written comments released by his lawyer after he visited the cleric in jail, Bashir said he was particularly saddened if such attacks claimed the lives of "people whose religion is Islam".

Infidels are not important clearly.

He also advised the Indonesian Government to "approach closer to Allah" by practising God's law as best as it can.

"These saddening incidents, in essence, are warnings, scolding from Allah to us all who are not respecting his sharia (Islamic religious laws)," he said.

And the tsunami which killed thousands of strict, fundamentalist, sharia respecting Muslims in Aceh province? What was Allah's message there?

Puts it in perspective.

Quote:
ICC has received reliable reports that large numbers of members of
the Laskar Jihad are moving into West Papua, with as many as 3000
Jihad fighters already poised to attack civilians. This is of a
great concern, considering that the Laskar Jihad has already been
blamed for the conflict between the Muslim and Christian
communities in the islands of Maluku, where large numbers from
both sides have been killed. The presence of the Laskar Jihad in
Papua has raised fears amongst West Papuans that the group may try
to incite religious conflict in the province where previously all
communities have lived in religious harmony. Moreover, the Laskar
Jihad could not operate in West Papua without the knowledge and
consent of the Indonesian government and military.

It is becoming increasingly more clear that Indonesia is an
incubator of terrorism and yet too little attention has been given
to this growing threat, not only a threat within Indonesia, but
worldwide. The Indonesian government has so far failed to hold
accountable those responsible for the killing of civilians in the
islands of Maluku, Sulawasi, and in East Timor.
