I did the same thing for my "almost" second job. I went for a visa run, but the school didn't have the contract OK'd with Immigration first and I didn't have the blue paper. ......... I didn't know.

Anyway, I wasted a bunch of money on a trip to Japan. When I returned, the director just said, "oh well, you can work illegally" blah blah blah.

I really didn't want the job that badly anyway as I had just finished a year with another school and I was more interested in a break. So I just left.
I was really worried at the time, but now I realize it was the right thing to do.
