I had to vote for Batman. I've never been really in to comic books, but Batman always struck a chord with me. Superman would seem to me as sort of cop-out for best superhero. He's practically indestructible. When you can't be hurt, you don't need courage in the face of danger. Where as Batman is only human. He faces problems with only his wits, as someone else pointed out. That takes some big brass ones.

And he's also the only one up there who isn't actually Superhuman. That he ranks up there with superhumans as possibly the best should be all the evidence you need for his greatness.

And Wonder Woman, seriously? All I have to say about that is the Lasso of truth. How lame is that.

As much of a GL fan as I am, Batman would find some way to beat them all.

Wolverine is practically immortal.

Have you've seen the first X-Men movie? You might have noticed that he was wearing half a Canadian dog-tag at the beginning of the movie. The tag had been broken, a sign that he's died in combat (a whole set of Canadian tags is consists of one plate that can be split in two, unlike the American ones that is made of 2 identical tags).

As much as I like GL, he would have no chance against Quasar and his yellow-beam emitting Quantum Bands.
