I had a Christian co-teacher ask me with sort of a laugh, "You believe in evolution?!" What, they don't teach science in Korea?
As far as the people bothering the OP... it sounds as though there's nothing you can do. Some of the evangelistic types will stop at nothing to make you believe what they believe. If I were you, I'd get very rude with them, and probably shout at them. |

I wonder if the OP is in the same situation I was in in my old place. Behind us was a church that operated on some kind of pyramid scheme. The more suckers you converted, the more tuna, spam or soap giftsets, or some such pallaver, you received. I'm guessing they had a bonus scheme operating for waegukins because I was constantly hassled.
I just always told them I didn't understand Korean but my lovely landlady would help so they should go to the seventh floor and talk to her. After a few times it pissed her off enough that she changed the security system to a card system and they couldn't get in. |

Ost pictures of satan on the door, and pour some karo and red food coloring in a pentagram shape in the hallway. That'll work |
Or, the flip-side could be re-invigourating their crusading determination to convert you into the fold of the congregation ... and make some English conversation
Any other hellish "backfire" scenarios? |

If you talk to them once, they will always come back.
I pretend I'm not home. In the subway hall, I just smile, shake my head and keep walking. Seems to have worked so far.
I still haven't figured out what to do about the guys who spot you on the subway, make a bee-line for you and then go through their whole camus crusade thingy. Or the gruff adjoshis who assume that because you are a foreigner you "must be interested". |

There ya go. I think that might be considered just rude enough to work
If there's any one type of conversation i've found to be futile in light of Koreans with limited English skills, it's those of any real philosophical nature. |

I used to be nice to them and even spoke in Korean and tried to politely end the conversation. That wasn't effective.
Now when someone rings my door or approaches me on the street I just say, "Church?" 100% of the time they nod their heads and smile widely looking relieved to have understood me. Then I say a little bit loudly, "No thank you," and either close the door or walk the other direction. Works like a charm. |

You don't have a peephole or a doorcam? Too bad. The wife and I just turn up the TV and play possum. |

You should have replied, "Well, I did...until I met you." |
