I went Sunday. Sat on an embankment/hill thirty meters from the AirBase wall and twenty meters high overlooking the airport.
I wasn't alone. Lots of people preferred the wider view, zero crowds, and lack of admission charge.
Saw the mountains nearby Fidel mentioned are good to climb to see the show from very high up. Next time.
Stayed for T-50 two seater Korean jet trainer, F-16, F-15 Eagle, the B1 bomber came and circled twice. Huge aircraft, 100 feet long, can carry 50,000 pounds of bombs. Four engines.
Then a firefighting display. Skycrane copter and a big Russian two prop both spraying water from dangling hoses.
There were the group Thunderbirds type shows after that but I left early to ride the motorbike, beautiful day. Would recommend squatting from a distance and not paying admission or suffering crowds. The fast jets need a lot of room to turn so a stand-off view/seat is perfectly ok.
Got to Seongnam City late at night to be at the show the next morning. The upscale/medium motels were all full, hordes of cars parked out front. Found a twenty year old, cheap, basic motel for 25,000. Out near the edge away from downtown. |

Well, Captain, you may have saved 7 bucks by not paying entrance but you missed out on half the show. There was an excellent static display of ROK and USAFK aircraft representing their entire inventory- from the new Eagles, Apaches, Blackhawks, - all the way up to another big mutha of a B-1 like you mentioned.
Add an exhibition hall filled with displays from the aerospace trade show /arms fair and it was well-worth a few won to see.
I went on Saturday. The crowds then weren't as bad as Sunday's, I'd imagine (since most of the kids were still at school), so your stand-off position does have lots of merit. |
