| I'm always getting comments about how "busy" I am (or look, to KTs). I figure that if I'm going to be at school for at least 8.5 hours a day I may as well be doing something productive. They seem to think that total time served at school amounts to something, even if half of it is spent sleeping at a desk or watching TV in the teachers' lounge. Coming in some evenings to give students extra help does, however, seem to have won me some respect amongst the KTs. |

Bloody hell fire! I've just walked to my grade 3 class and discovered that all the grade 3s are out on a trip today. Can't recall anyone telling me. So yet another free period! And no classes for the rest of today, presumably, except possibly an extra this evening. Quite remarkable. Plus, it was exam week the week before last - no class - and this week on Wed, Thur and Fri it's school 'exhibition' time - no class. Tremendously hard work this public school game. And on Friday I'll be paid for playing in a soccer game (teachers v students) in front of my adoring fans! |

We have five K-teachers and I teach more classes than any of them. I also teach more classes than the other foreigners, for that matter, although not by much.
Also, I don't teach conversational English. Which means I have as much if not more to do in terms of photocopying tests, homework papers, midterms, exams, etc. than the K-teachers, and then I have to file all that shit in each student's folder.
The only thing they have to do that I don't is call the student's moms. |

0 prep work all my lesson plans are prepared for me...paint by numbers after that I can show up a minute before class no problem.
In the middle of the road when it comes to class time.......I teach more than some of the Korean ladies and less than some of the others....I work on average about 22-23 hours a week with an hour of phone teaching tossed in for good measure......no Saturdays which is a huge bonus....it's a good gig, better than working my hump off back home!! |
