Generally speaking all fledgling birds fall out of the nest and are unable to fly properly for a couple days. They hide in bushes etc, and are fed by the parents who tend them until they can fly and feed properly for themselves.

Thus, its better to just leave them alone. The parents will come back for them and look after them.

However, magpies are very common birds and do make good pets. This is about the only wild bird (maybe crows and sparrows too) that I would even consider taking out of the wild. They are insectivores, so plenty of worms/insects/maggots etc, and water. And remember, the natural parents do a far better job of looking after them than any human could ever do.

About Alaskan 'Camp Robber' birds which are related to magpies. In Northern Saskatchewan Gray Jays are called Whiskey Jack and Camp Robbers. Nicknames. The Gray Jay is like the Blue Jay except it's gray. They sit in the trees with a keen eye and swoop down to pick up someone's lunch.
